Simulation of External Circumstance

SOC.[sos], Galleri 54, Gothenburg, May 2000.
Video-on-demand, Club Sekt, Alcazar, Stockholm, April 2000.

Simulation of External Circumstance took place two times during the year 2000. These interventions were carried trough in a similar way and they both took place at art related events.

At the opening of the exhibition SOC.[sos] at Galleri 54 in Gothenburg, I simulated an electricity breakdown during two minutes by completely shutting down the main power supply to the gallery, which made it pitch black. To ensure that the space would be totally dark I made the simulation at 9 p.m. All the windows in the space were covered with curtains made of thick beige cloth. During the minute that the simulated breakdown went on I recorded the people visiting the space with an infra-red sensitive video camcorder. From the next day and troughout the exhibition period this two minute long film was shown in an unedited loop using a video projector in one of the rooms in the gallery.

The first version of "Simulation of external circumstance" took place at the club SEKT in Stockholm where a electricity breakdown was simulated and recorded. The recording from this event was never shown.
