19 YEARS

In 19 YEARS a large number of events are displayed in chronological order on a black and white political map in approx. 30 seconds. Each dot represents one popular mass-protest in which several thousands of people took to the streets in demonstrations, rallies or similar actions. The animation displays 1821 such events from 1989 to 2007 in 561 locations. 19 YEARS is a Flash animation/application, which can be updated with new events as they unfold. The piece is available on CD, USB stick or download, in an edition of 10 signed copies and 1 artist's proof. Copy no.1 will be shown in the exhibition 'Winter Salon' at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios in Dublin from November 18th until December 21st.

19 YEARS was produced for the exhibition 'Changing Matters- the Resilience Art Exhibition' at the Museum of Nature History in Stockholm in 2008. A text from that show's catalogue, written by the project manager Frida Cornell, is re-published on this site.
